As a family photographer in Boston, and a mother myself, I understand that planning a photo shoot with your loved ones can feel overwhelming. However, with a bit of preparation, it can be a fun and memorable experience. Here are some helpful tips to help you get ready for your family photo session in advance!

1. Coordinate Outfits in Advance
Selecting outfits is one of the first steps in preparing for your photo session. Start by choosing a color palette that compliments everyone in the family. Opt for coordinating colors rather than matching outfits to create a cohesive look. Avoid busy patterns and logos, as they can be distracting. It’s important to physically try on everyone's outfits ahead of the shoot as well - you need to make sure that the clothes (and shoes!) actually fit everyone to give yourself enough time to make changes if necessary.
2. Preparation is Key
Talk to your children about the upcoming photo session and get them excited! Let them know what to expect and how much fun it will be. Make sure that kids get enough sleep the night before the session, and the day of. Rested kids are happy kids!

3. Keep the Lines of Communication Open
As a family photographer, my goal is to capture your family's unique personality and dynamic. I want to tell your family’s story through photographs and help you freeze time whenever you look back on your photo session. It helps me when you share any specific ideas or concerns ahead of the session. This ensures everyone is on the same page and will help me tailor the session to your family's needs.
I hope these tips help you set the stage for a successful and enjoyable family photo session. Stay tuned for an upcoming blog post, where I’ll share tips for ensuring a stress-free experience on the day of your photo shoot!
